Social eMotions - dance and science on emotions
Social eMotions research project culminates in two performances of a dance piece in culture centre Stoa.

Social eMotions combines contemporary dance and movement science to highlight the social, dynamic and embodied aspects of emotions. The performance builds on the outcomes of an ongoing scientific and artistic study. This research was conducted at the Aalto University Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering, in a two-year project funded by the Kone Foundation. Post-doctoral researcher Tommi Himberg has acted as the principal investigator.
The embodied expression and perception of emotions and emotional contagion were studied in the project. The results of the project are presented here.
One of the outcomes of the project is a dance piece for two dancers, two cellists and one researcher. The emotional content of the choreography and the music are voted by the audience through a mobile interface. Through the choices of the audience, and the performers, the piece creates a new dramaturgy and new meanings in each performance.
