The Virtual Acoustics team at Aalto, lead by Prof. Tapio Lokki, is trying to understand how different spaces change the sound that we hear. In particular, the team is interested in human perception of sound, and recent years have been dedicated to studies on music perception in concert halls. In this presentation prof. Lokki will give an overview of their methods and results. The topics covered would be, e.g., a symphony orchestra simulator, sensory evaluation methods borrowed from wine tasting, preference test results, and psychophysiological measurements to disentangle the preference ratings. The talk will feature a lot of interesting information on the human auditory perception and you will hear why Musikverein in Vienna is the best concert hall in the world.

Tapio Lokki is Associate Professor at the Aalto SCI, Dept. of Computer Science
