Aalto's Computer Science placed 47th in the US News ranking

Economics and Business and Space Science also made it to the top 100.

Aalto improved its ranking in all of the US News Best Global Universities rankings it was included in. Computer Science ranked 47th globally. In this ranking, the top three universities in the field of Computer Science included the Tsinghua University, the University of Texas - Austin and the Nanyang Technological University. Out of other Finnish universities, the University of Helsinki ranked 150th and the University of Oulu 183rd.

Economics and Business and Space Science also made it to the top 100. They ranked 87th and 97th, respectively. In the field of Economics and Business, the top three universities of the world included the Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Stanford University. Other Finnish universities in the field of Economics and Business didn't make it to the list. In Space Science, the University of Helsinki ranked 77th and the University of Turku 118th.

In Engineering and in Materials Science, Aalto ranked 116th globally. Other Finnish universities were left behind in these subrankings and were placed from 270th to 382nd. Art and Design are not included as separate categories.

Aalto was placed 255th in the US News general ranking, which included 1 250 top universities of the world. In the general ranking, the top three included the same universities that topped the ranking of Economics and Business, i.e. the Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Stanford University. Out of Finnish universities, the University of Helsinki beat Aalto and ranked 81st in the world.

US News has published the Best Global Universities ranking since 2014, but it has over 30 years of history in US university rankings. Despite its newness, the US News global ranking has been widely accepted as one of the most significant rankings along with the ARWU (Shanghai), QS and Times Higher Education (THE) rankings. It is based on bibliometric data and reputation surveys provided by Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science and InCites analysis tools. The ranking methodology has been amended on annual basis, and the results from different years are not completely comparable.
