The Aalto Computer Science (CS) Professors' Lunch is a biweekly networking event sponsored by the Department of Computer Science. It is an informal occasion to get to know our colleagues and their research. Its objective is to foster collaboration between professors working in diverse areas of CS within the School of Science and beyond. Each event features a short presentation by an internal speaker or a guest.

MyData - Principles and Emerging Practices for Human-Centric Personal Data
Abstract
In this talk I will introduce my own background as a scholar and research team leader. More specifically, the talk will include a summary on latest community developments and academic interests around the theme of MyData. This human-centric vision on personal data empowers individuals in the management of their personal lives both online and offline. MyData aims to develop the practical means to understand and effectively control who has access to data about individuals and how it is used and shared. I will discuss the principles, challenges and future research directions related with MyData vision.
Bio
Marko Turpeinen is the Director of EIT Digital Finland (European Institute of Innovation and Technology), and Adjunct Professor and the leader of the Digital Content Communities research group at Aalto University. His academic research addresses issues in customized media content, active computer-mediated communities, and personal data in digital society. He has extensive industrial experience from the media industry, as between 1996 and 2005 he worked in various executive positions at Alma Media Corporation, a Finnish media company. He has also worked at KTH in Stockholm and UC Berkeley. Turpeinen has a Doctor of Technology Degree in Computer Science from Helsinki University of Technology, and a Master of Science Degree in Media Arts and Sciences from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
