Title: Analysing, Querying, and Managing Data.
Abstract:
The efficiency of declarative languages relies on sophisticated optimisation techniques developed for traditional databases. In the modern context, the optimisation of complex declarative analytical scenarios requires re-consideration of these techniques. Challenges of BIG DATA, especially velocity and veracity, imply a need on real-time processing of analytical tasks. The talk will describe a framework for optimisation of declarative analytical scenarios for execution in real-time environment.
Bio:
Prof. Boris Novikov graduated from the Leningrad University in 1972 as Dipl. Math. (dept. of Algebra and Number Theory), received a PhD in Comp.Sci. from the same university in 1981 and a Dr. Sci degree in 1994.
He joined the university as an employee in 1972. Since Jan. 2013 he is a professor and chair, subdepartment of Analytical Information Systems, St.-Peterburg University in Russia (actually the same university). He also occasionally works as a database expert for the industry. During his career he combined academic activities with practical experience in the system programming, database application design, development and tuning.
Currently Boris Novikov is a visiting professor at Aalto University School of Science, Finland.
