About the speaker: Prof. Jie Song is the director of Institute of Cloud Computing Technology.

The presentation: I will present an overview of research  at the Institute of Cloud Computing in Northeastern University, China. Our research focuses on distributed system and algorithms upon the cloud infrastructure, including big data storage and management, iterative computing and energy efficient computing. We investigate the methodology of storing and querying massive and unstructured or semi-structured data efficiently, such as the optimization on logic and storage data models, query algorithms, NoSQL and NewSQL databases. Our long-term interest is in energy efficiency computing, which is about how to optimize energy consumption performance of software system from aspect of middleware, applications and source code.
